A woman was killed and four others were injured when Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to indiscriminate firing and shelling in Tanghdar sector in Kupwara on Thursday.
Official sources said Pak troops fired mortar shells and resorted to indiscriminate firing, targeting forwarding position at Tanghdar sector. “A number of civilian areas also came under the Pak shelling,” they said, adding Indian troops also retaliated and hit a number of Pak forward bunkers.
They said four civilians, including a woman, were injured inthe ceasefire violation. “The injured were rushed to a medical facility centre,where the woman was declared brought dead,” they added.
They said the exchange of fire was still going on when thereports last came in.
On Sunday, two Army soldiers and a civilian were killed inPak shelling in Tanghdar sector, prompting retaliatory action from Indian sidein which three militant launch pads were reportedly damaged.
Sources said Pak troops are frequently violating ceasefireto help militants in launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) toinfiltrate into this side before the upper reaches are closed due to snowfall.
Several hundred trains militants are waiting across the LoCto sneak into this side, they said adding troops guarding the LoC are alreadyon high alert to foil any infiltration attempt.
Several infiltrationattempts were foiled and militants neutralized immediately after they sneakedinto this side from POK this year, they added.
